Bitter Failures Of United States Of America In Afghanistan And Pakistan
The world seems to be in a state of shock when they saw Sharia regulations approved for implementation in the northern parts of Pakistan after negotiations with the Provincial Government of Northern West Frontier Province. Swat is the prime focus of the recent news where local Talibans and Pakistani Army were engaged in fierce battle. Unfortunately for many anti religious forces, the reality becomes harder to swallow when they begin to understand that the terrain and geographical condition of these parts of Pakistan cannot be termed as an ideal battlefront. The local residents are much aware of the mountains, caves and routes which even a trained army cannot explore easily. The perpetual aggression in Afghanistan and now in Pakistan by trained armed forces disclosed their inability to tackle the militia running the matters in these difficult parts of the world. The failure was all due to lack of preparation and taking no lesson from Russian experience in Afghanistan.
Frustration is now visible on the face of Americans when they found the matters in Afghanistan hard to deal and suddenly the northern parts of Pakistan are showing equal level of threat for the NATO forces present in that region. May be the failure to dig out Osama Bin Ladin and losing battle to defeat Talibans may create a great catastrophe for this region. The policy of US to trigger war with Taliban without giving negotiations a chance was a mistake which cannot be rubbed from the history. The losses in terms of life and property and moreover the soldiers who were there since 8 years without seeing any result can aggravate problems for the US.
Obama’s decision to give negotiations a chance is quite late. The impact of any such idea is leading to the conclusion that like USSR, USA also failed to tackle the iron courage of mad fighters of this region. Although the situation is not similar to Vietnam but the fact is that NATO has control over a very limited part in Afghanistan. The gains which were enjoyed just after the war on terror are long lost. The impact of this fruitless war is visible on the wall of USA’s fort which is showing visible signs of painful dismantling. The sinking Titanic of USA’s economy is a sorry story and stimulus plans are only acting as blood transfusion to a body which is not producing blood itself.
It is time USA should pull out all the forces from Iraq and Afghanistan. The war cannot be won at this point. USA is fighting these wars on its own. Nobody is joining hands with them all because the war on terror has no proper goal or target. There is no action plan available on the ground. The decision would be tough, but USA has to take this decision and has to swallow the painful reality that they have lost the War in Afghanistan.
One thing is to be understood here that Sharia regulations are supported by the people of Swat and Afghanistan. It is not possible now to stop implementation of rule of Sharia. Any aggression and intervention would aggravate the problem. The world should leave people of this region to deal the matters according to their own will. They would never accept any alien rule and regulation. This is the reality which everybody should accept.
