How long does my lawyer have to complete my bankruptcy petition after I have paid and complete my part?
It has been 3 weeks since I have paid my lawyer in full and completed all necessary paperwork. I cannot talk directly to the lawyer I paid $2,000 for only the secretary and although she will admit it usually does not take this long she will not tell me why it is taking so long or when it might be done. She also will not let me speak directly to the lawyer nor will they give us a final signing date…this time combined with the 30 to 45 days till I will receive a 341 court date is growing and I am afraid it will make my credit counseling certificate no good at some point. I would like to know how long they legally can take to prepare my petition for bankruptcy before something fishy is going on and I should contact the North Carolina Bar association to complain.
I could not find a specific time frame, however the lawyer should not be dodging you. Send the office a letter, certified mail that if you do not receive a personal response from the attorney within 3 business days of receipt, you will contact the bar assoc. Do so if necessary.
