How can I get a copy of my 2001 bankruptcy discharge papers? I need them ASAP for a home loan.?
My ex left with a lot of important papers. I’ve tried the web but I can’t pay $20 or $30 for this. How can I get it for free?
My lawyer and I are not on best of terms. She “forgot” to make the appointment for me to surrender my vehicle and the finance company came and reposessed it from in front of my job, right in front of my co-workers. I was mortified. I did not pay my lawyer the $120 balance I owed because I had to drive over 100 miles to retrieve my belongings from my vehicle and pay storage fees. Nope, contacting my lawyer is out.
1) You can go back to the attorney who represented you in your case and ask him or her for copies. You might be charged, however. Some charge and some don’t.
2) You can contact the federal courthouse where you case was filed and ask them. You might be charged there as well.
You’ll need your list of creditors, your petition of filing, and your discharge paperwork. They probably won’t need every single page. That might help if you’re having to pay for photocopies.
