Can I declare bankruptcy in the U.S while living abroad?
I have been living in New Zealand for 4.5 years and I have no debt here. But my credit card debt back in the U.S amounts to about 40K. I manage to pay the minimum payments by borrowing more credit card money. Can I declare bankruptcy while living abroad? If not, can I make a trip back to the U.S and meet with a lawyer and then declare it?
It is legal to do this. You have an attorney show up at all the hearings. The judge likes it if you can attend the first hearing. It only lasts 2 minutes. You state your name and you are done for the day.
