bankruptcy paralegal duties
I’ve just begun paralegal school (2 year degree) and wondering exactly what paralegals are allowed to do?
I realize they are a support system for law offices and help with many clerical duties and researching, but are they allowed to help people fill out forms such as bankruptcy schedules, divorce papers, and other things like that?

Yes curious George is correct. I do all the paperwork in my office and it is always put on my boss’s desk for his review and signature. As far as helping fill out bankruptcy schedules the client has to take care of that themselves. Most law offices have a notary on staff, I’m one.
Things I don’t do.
*File paperwork or file
*answer the phone (secretary receptionist does that)
*give out legal advice
*retain clients – they must speak to my boss and he makes the decision to take the case. I only interview
*sign pleadings
*appear in court for attorney
*sign my name on the trust account (bad idea paralegals)
I can do the paperwork for a divorce and explain the form but it’s up to the client to sign or not. I do not tell them what to do.
