Big man Mario Lemieux saved a team twice. Because of Hodgkin’s Disease (cancer), back pain, and lymphoria, he missed a few games in the mid 90s, but overcame those diseases. Also in the summer of 1999, he took control of the Penguins franchise as the owner. He has also mentored Sidney Crosby to become a living superstar. With Crosby’s Penguins winning the Stanley Cup, this is now Mario Lemieux’s first time as owner that he has won the Cup.
Smaller than Mario, Wayne on the other hand maybe the NHL’s greatest player ever. He also organized a new Team Canada to win the Gold Medal with Mario leading the team. However, during his partial ownership in Phoenix, he’s witnessing the team go down in flames and in total bankruptcy. Now if only he can save the Coyotes like Mario did with the Pens, the Coyotes could get reformatted into a team of champions.

You can’t take away the achievements of Wayne because Mario was often injured.
We could be asking this same question with the name Mike Bossy if he didn’t have to retire so early.Holds the NHL record for most 50 goal seasons in a row(9),Him and Gretzky are the only two to score 60 in at least 5 seasons..GREAT numbers!
Wayne is also responsible for bringing more hockey to the States,even though I know alot of you don’t like hockey in the South,his trade to the Kings helped teams like Dallas and Tampa Bay.Also the biggest stat of all,more ASSISTS then anyone has POINTS…Biggest stat in all of sports,more then Cy Youngs 511 wins or Wilts 100 points.
