Is bankruptcy too easy to declare in this country? Should we go back to having debtor’s prisons?

Why should lazy poor people not have to pay their debts?

More than 60% of the bankruptcies in the US result from medical bills that people couldn’t pay. Are these people lazy? Or are they unfortunate, to be stuck in a system where if you have insurance, everything’s paid for but if you don’t, you could be stuck with a $40,000 bill for one day in the hospital (my husband’s surgery bill, 8 hours in the hospital, “outpaitent surgery”). Are people who are in car accidents and have surgery after surgery to repair broken legs or whatever lazy? You are shortsighted and obviously have never suffered one of life’s many possible misfortunes through no fault of your own. I hope your good fortune continues!
