Which Of These Reasons Explains Why Obama Rarely Mentions He’s Hawaiian?
Since Barack was born and raised in Hawaii 14 of his 18 formative years, it’s odd he so rarely mentions Hawaii, but mentions Illinois, where he didn’t move until his 20’s, every 10 seconds…what do you think is the main reason?
#1- Hawaii brings up bittersweet memoies to him; his dead mother, his abandoning father, his underachieving and wayward youth, etc.
#2- He’s afraid to dwell on his Hawaiian youth, because somebody then becomes more likely to quiz him on the vague details of his drug history there.
#3- He’s conciously trying to get Illinois’ citizens to consider him a native son, since winning Illinois is far more crucial than Hawaii in any election.
#4- Hawaii is a strange, exotic, faraway state separate from the rest of America, with an entirely separate culture. Barack is already so exotic (his name, his parents, his ethnicity, his career choices), that he doesn’t want to overdo it by reminding people he’s from 1,000 miles away from the rest of America.
