exemption bankruptcy

Bankruptcy exemptions- does it mean that’s how much you get to keep?
What if the exemptions say $3000 for my car, which is worth about $10,000, but I have a lien on it for $7000? does that mean I’ll have $3000 to buy a new car with? or does it mean they’ll sell the car and I”m screwed. lol
If the car is worth $10,000 and you have a lien of $7,000, then the $3,000 exemption protects the equity in your car. You still have to make the payments, but you will be able to keep the car if you do make the payments.
