new jersey bankruptcy exemptions
personal property liens?
there was a judgement against my parents and i for 29,000 due to a lease purchase that didn’t work out. my question is in 10 days they already put a levy on my bank accounts, and a lien on our personal property. in 10 days they can come and do a sheriff’s sale. do they have the right to go threw your personal property ie in your closet threw your clothes anything they want to? in new jersey you are entitled to a 1,000 exemption for personal property. can they show up here if we are not here and just come in and do what they want or do we have to be home for them to enter the house we are renting? if i file bankruptcy does this stop the lien on my items and my bank account?
Yes, you can file bankruptcy in order to avoid paying a judgment.
