Why was Obama’s speech to school kids so controversial?

To me the speech sounded like a plea for the kids to work hard and that success doesn’t come easy. Am I missing something?

Lily the Big’s response is a prime example of the ‘idiotcrazy’ that’s being preached by the far Right Wing Conservative fan base. There is nothing in this world that states encouraging our youth to work hard, strive for excellence through hard work and set goals is unconstitutional. If this is an example of ‘indoctrination’ I pray that more and more teachers, community leaders, parents, mentors and even fellow students continue this indoctrination to our nation’s lost youth; that’s failing in almost every aspect of academics imaginable. Of all the ‘free nations’ in this world our children are behind in studies like math, science, biology and physics. And this is due to the fact that no one is really encouraging these young people to work hard and achieve greatness. Have you seen the kids of today and compared them to the kids of yesterday? These kids care more about reality TV shows than they do passing their classes.

I’m lucky that I grew up in the household I did. Even though my parents had their faults and did things that I didn’t agree with, their methods of firmness and discipline coupled with love and a drive to make us strive to do better is what made my siblings and myself who we are today. These kids lack that! They lack that stable foundation that comes from elders who really care about where they’ll end up years from now. And I’m not going to say that kids need both parents to thrive, but what I will say is that they need that structure in their lives that keeps them on the straight and narrow. These kids have learned from those in their lives who’re charged with their care use excesses of hardship and having to do without cell phones, name brand clothes/shoes and PS2’s as a reason for not wanting to get their @$$3es up, go to school, pay attention and pass their classes. And because they have no real leadership they don’t have an understanding of what it takes to be a leader. This is where our Commander and Chief and many like him should take the responsibly to step up, and step in to those shoes to show these youth that it doesn’t matter where you are in life currently, it only matters where you end up at. He and his wife are a living testimony to this.

There was nothing wrong with President Obama’s speech. There was no hidden political agenda and there was not underlying, subliminal message in his speech other than giving his own personal experience of overcoming obstacles. He’s a prime example of how anyone in this nation can be anything he/she desires to become if they work hard and never give up. WHATS UNCONSTITUIONAL about that? This is the same message that our founding fathers gave to those fighting the revolutionary war, and our troops in WWI, II Korea, Viet Nam, Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. It’s the same message given to the men and women who participated in the Civil Rights/Women’s Rights movements. The same message he gave these children are the same messages given to generation after generation of Americans who’ve contributed to this great nation. Protesting against President Obama’s speech is a prime example of more deeper, unresolved issues that many of these right wing fanatics have with the fact that President Obama is our Commander and Chief. And that’s because they don’t like his name and they don’t like him. It has nothing to do with the speech (it would have been just fine if McCain or Palin was giving it) they just don’t like the idea that the speech was given by Barrack Hussein Obama.

Edit: And how in the h3ll does anyone know what was in the ‘original speech’ unless they where there when the speech was writen? I’ve never seen any President in the U.S. have to post any speech he plans to give either via the media outlets or online so that parents can go and ‘read it’. Bush would have never (he nor his father) been asked to do something like that. That’s clear and blatant disrespect to the President. He’s not trying to tell any parents how to ‘raise their children’ hell, most of you are doing a poor job of that anyway. He’ll trying to reach out to all Americans (the older and younger generations alike) to simply talk to them. Showing them that we as Americans all have a role to play in the contributions to our country. Isn’t that what an American President is expected too do?
