Why Do Both Major U.S. Parties Always Invoke the Names of F. Roosevelt, Truman, and Kennedy… And then Stop?

I remember watching in Obama’s acceptance speech in August when he said something to the effect of, “How dare the Republicans say that the Democrats are weak on national defense. We are not weak on national defense. We are the party of FDR, of Truman, and of Kennedy.”

Likewise, Republicans will often say that today’s Democratic Party is not the same Democratic Party as FDR, Truman, and Kennedy.

Why do they all stop at Kennedy? Why don’t they mention Johnson, Carter, and Clinton (LBJ and Clinton could arguably be called strong on defense).

I am especially shocked when the Republicans invoke the name of JFK, because he was a self-described “liberal.”

Can anyone answer why both parties seem to only mention these three Democrats?

Let’s be honest: Johnson was a mixed blessing, Carter had a good heart but a poor policy and Clinton couldn’t keep his trouser trout in the tank. These tends to wreck one’s reputation

As to the GOP, why don;t they at least cite reagan
