Is Barack Obama the best thing to happen to the Republican Party since Jimmy Carter?
1. Polls show that since the 2008 election, America is moving to the right. According to Gallup, 40% of Americans identified themselves as conservatives in 2009, a 3% increase from 2008. That number will likely increase as Barack Obama’s job approval ratings continue to fall. Independents are flocking to the Republican Party, as shown in the recent elections in New Jersey, Virginia, and Massachusetts.
2. FOX News Channel had its best year ever in 2009. According to Nielsen, the 10 most-watched cable news shows in 2009 were all FOX News programs. With shows like “The O’Reilly Factor,” “Hannity,” and “Glenn Beck” leading the way, every single show on the network saw a double-digit increase in ratings from 2008 in the 25-54 demographic.
I don’t think these trends will stop anytime soon. As Jay Leno once said, the only major accomplishment that Obama has done is reviving and uniting the Republican Party. Hopefully, 2012 will be 1980 all over again.
