state tax bankruptcy

Bankruptcy- Will they take both Federal and State tax refunds?
My husband and I had a horrible year last year and ended up having to file bankruptcy. When we were first told that we would most likely lose our tax return at first we were not to worried because we thought it would be very small since we had hardly earned a dime the whole year anyway. But as I am starting to file I found we got that Earned Income Credit because we have 2 children. It looks like we are getting a pretty good return now. We really need the money that we will get from it. We still hardly have an income, my husband is only earning 9.90 a hour. It is making me sick that I might lose 5,000 dollars that we desperatly need.
We live in Utah, is there anything we can do to try to be able to keep it.
And do they take both your federal and your state returns?
(Please don’t judge us for the Bankruptcy, we did not have any foolish purchases, just lost income and had to end up living on credit cards and kept thinking things would be better the next month.)
If you have been to your meeting of creditors and received your discharge, you will keep your refunds.
