Opposing Perspectives Of Dems And Conservatives

Did you know that the phrase political left originated in Italy during the French revolution? After the King and Queen had been executed, France became a republic. The terms left and right evolved from the seating in the new parliament.  These are still used when talking about politics nowadays although they are rather simplistic considering our complex political landscape.If a person describe someone as being on the political left that person is deemed to be more liberal in their opinions.  A conservative would be referred to as being on the political right.  Republicans that tend to be conservative in their views are right wing whereas the Democrats are traditionally on the left side of the political arena.

As is usually the case with human beings, it just isn’t that simple. Even with individuals who support the Democrats there will be some who will be very liberal in their views and what they consider best policy. As an example you might have some Democrats who believe that abortion is wrong so would follow a typical right wing view on that matter.  Or you might have some other Liberals who feel that the war in Afghanistan is just and thus spending on army should increase whereas the Democrats generally advocate less spending on  military.

In national politics, as with other things, there are always the extremes. You can have two individuals who are both deemed to be on the political left, yet they hold significantly different viewpoints on various topics.  These different viewpoints are what makes political meetings so exciting and the study of politics so absorbing as well as intricate.

Barack Obama is a Democrat so would be described as being on the political left. Typically his party would support problems like legalizingsame sex marriages and permitting doctor aided suicide.  The conservatives would seem to take a more religious viewpoint being pro life, anti same sex marriages and desire to introduce even more religion in colleges.
