Etta James Concert Tickets – “At Last” A Tribute to a Long Pursuit
Etta James has recently been greatly celebrated on the stage, winning portrayals by many from world famous ventriloquist Terry Fator to Beyoncé Knowles. Her song “At Last” also won her honors recently by being sung by Beyoncé at President Barak Obama’s Inauguration. The song is one that has become synonymous with Etta James, and when people hear these lyrics, most will recognize that this song is timeless, important, and perfectly suited to the age that we live it. It is a song of hope and passion that leaves audiences cheering every time that James comes on stage.
“At Last” is an incredible song, the lyrics are both hopeful and somewhat sorrowful as they echo the formerly unfulfilled hopes and dreams: The lines “At last, my love has come along/My lonely days are over/And life is like a song.” Give a strong sense that the singer is looking into the future with hope, after a sorrowful past. The ending lines “Oh, yeah when you smile, you smile/Oh, and then the spell was cast/And here we are in heaven/For you are mine/At last” bring to mind the picture of peace and an end to conflict. It is nothing to wonder at that President Barak Obama recently had this particular song played at his Inaguaration, nor is it any wonder that this great singer, Etta James, has had everyone sing and imitate her.
“At Last” was the title song to James MCA/Chess debut album, which brought her to the charts and won her acclaim as a recording artist in 1961. The song reached number two on Black Singles that year, but it was not the only song that she hit the charts with from that album, she also scored hits with “All I Could Do Was Cry,” “If I Can’t Have You,” “My Dearest Darling,” “Spoonful,” and “Trust In Me.”
From her first album forward James continued to win acclaim as a talented and strong artist whose music continues to be celebrated the world over. She won her first Grammy Award in 1994 for the album Mystery Lady: Songs of Billie Holiday, an album that won Best Jazz Vocal that year. She won her second Grammy in 2003, for the album Let’s Roll, which won her Best Contemporary Blues Album. In 2001 she was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and in 2003 she received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 2008 she was portrayed by Beyoncé in the film Cadillac Records, a Golden Globe nominated film about her former label, Chess Records. Etta James is a long-standing and important establishment in the R&B world, and her music continues to thrill crowds throughout the US.
